how does amd turbo work

How does Turbo Core Technology work for AMD?

AMD Turbo Core technology dynamically adjusts to give you a performance boost just when the operating system requests the highest processor performance. If a core is operating below maximum limits and your workload demands additional performance, the processor frequency will dynamically increase until the upper limit of frequency is reached.

When does a CPU get a turbo boost?

However, one thing that you can be sure of is that at least one of the cores on your CPU can reach the turbo boost speed at any given time. The most common situation is that when a multi-core CPU reaches its turbo boost speeds on two of its cores, but the other cores use lower clocks.

What’s the difference between AMD Turbo and Thuban?

With Thuban, AMD introduces its own alternative called Turbo Core. The original Phenom processor had the ability to adjust the clock speed of each individual core. AMD disabled this functionality with the Phenom II to avoid some performance problems we ran into, but it’s back with Thuban.

Why did AMD disabled Turbo Core on Phenom II?

AMD disabled this functionality with the Phenom II to avoid some performance problems we ran into, but it’s back with Thuban. If half (or more) of the CPU cores on a Thuban die are idle, Turbo Core does the following:
